The Lake Taupo area is a truly inspiring place. The landscape is formed by volcanic action in the past, creating a wonderful natural sight of mountains, thermal wonderland and the stunning, clear freshwater lake known as Lake Taupo.
Accommodation
This 5-star, private luxury lodge has been thoughtfully designed for the comfort and pleasure of its guests. With the secluded surroundings and only four bedrooms, privacy is assured.
With views over Lake Taupo and Mt. Tauhara, the spacious lounge area with Finnish soap-stone log fire can be enjoyed with pastimes such as a game of chess, reading, or enjoying a glass of fine wine.
The lodge is outfitted with many little technical details that help you switch off from every-day life, such as easy listening music preferences and personal mood lighting adjustments. Additional facilities include a sauna and a state-of-the-art digital home-theatre system complete with big screen plasma TV.
Portable or laptop computers can be plugged directly into the plasma TV allowing big screen viewing of documents or pictures of your day fishing.
Eco Policies
Eco-Certification – Chalet Eiger has achieved Green Globe Benchmark status.
Eco-Design - Chalet Eiger has been designed in an Alpine style using stones and earthy colors to blend in with the environment. This eco-friendly hotel has been built using aerated concrete blocks to save energy via thermal insulation and noise elimination. Double glazed, tinted windows are used throughout the building, to improve insulation and reduce the need for heating.
Energy - Chalet Eiger uses electricity generated by wind farms and hydropower stations to reduce carbon emissions. Guestrooms are heated only on-demand, using ecologically friendly heat pumps. To further reduce energy consumption, low-energy eco-bulbs are used in the building where possible.
Conservation - Chalet Eiger has park-like gardens with many trees and native plants which attract the native birds. Only organic materials are used as fertilizers.
Ecological sustainability - Chalet Eiger uses an ISO standard state-of-the-art waste water treatment system allowing pure water to be released back into the environment. 90% of water used is collected rainwater.
The eco-friendly accommodation minimizes waste by separating glass, plastics, paper and metal waste, which is sent for recycling.
Chalet Eiger also has its own organic vegetable garden and seasonally grown vegetables are used in the cuisine. Food goods are locally sourced to support the local community.
Community - Chalet Eiger strongly promotes local Maori culture, encouraging guests to visit and experience Maori performances. Only local staff, who live within a short distance, are employed at Chalet Eiger. In addition to this, Chalet Eiger supports many local charity programs by offering gourmet dinners free of charge to support such organizations.

- Dinner selections change daily according to guests’ preferences and the freshest New Zealand produce is complemented with home-grown organic vegetables and herbs. Pre-dinner drinks are served in the bar and the cellar offers a selection of the finest Old and New World wines.
- A culinary 5-course dinner is optional at $95 per person including tax and excluding wines or soft drinks. Chalet Eiger’s chef can prepare dinner to your preferences, given advance notice.

Lake Taupo is one of New Zealand's recreational, cultural, adventure and sightseeing hotspots, offering a wide range of activities. Some of the best trout fishing in the world can be found in this area, with thermal hot springs and adventure activities such as sky diving and bungy jumping making Lake Taupo a genuinely unique place.
The famous Wairakei Golf course, Jack Nicholas signature golf course and 3 other golf courses make Lake Taupo a golfer's paradise.

Room Description
Each room features: Swiss Jeweller (Huesler) beds (only natural materials, no synthetics); a spa hydrotherapy bath or claw-foot bath and heated bathroom floor; light-moods automated via touch screen; individually controlled heating and air-conditioning; a private balcony; a digital home-theatre system with big screen plasma TV and DVD/CD library; mini bar equipped with a bottle of NZ wine, beer, mineral water, milk and soft drinks; hair dryer and ironing board. Each room also comes with complimentary flowers, truffle chocolates, fresh fruit basket, cheese board and mixed nuts.
The Tongariro room is situated on the first floor with magnificent lake and mountain views. The en-suite bathroom features a claw-foot bath, a large walk in shower, bathrobes, under floor heating, toiletries and hairdryer.
The Ngauruhoe suite is situated on the first floor with magnificent lake and mountain views. This room can be a double or a twin. Here is an en-suite bathroom with luxurious bathrobes, under floor heating, toiletries and hairdryer which also features a claw-foot bath and a large walk in shower.
The Tauhara room is situated on the ground floor with tranquil garden, mountain and some lake views. There is an en-suite bathroom with luxurious bathrobes, under floor heating, toiletries and hairdryer which also features a large walk in shower and toilet.
The Ruapehu room is situated on the first floor with magnificent lake and mountain views. There is an en-suite bathroom with luxurious bathrobes, under floor heating, toiletries and hairdryer which also features a Spa-bath hydrotherapy for relaxation, improving circulation and melting away muscle tension. Includes a large walk in shower.
Prices & Booking Policies
Currency: New Zealand Dollar (NZ$)
Prices and inclusions: Prices per room per night with 2 people sharing range from NZ$455 (approx £170) from May to October, to NZ$545 (approx £205) from November to April. Prices for sole occupancy are NZ$358 (approx £135) per night from May to October and NZ$435 (approx £165) per night from November to April.
Prices include airport transfers, European or continental breakfast with fresh, seasonal fruits, complimentary flowers and chocolates, all government taxes and service charges.
Child prices: Children aged 0-14 years old are not accepted at Chalet Eiger.
Extra adult prices: It is not possible to sleep a 3rd adult in any of the rooms.
Special offers: Customers booking for 3 nights or more receive a complimentary Living Nature Body Treatment at Taupo Hot Springs or a kayaking excursion on Waikato river.
Check-in / Check-out times: Check-in 3pm, check-out 11am.
Opening dates: Chalet Eiger is open all year round. Bookings are currently being taken until 31st October 2008.
Restrictions: There is a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights for stays over the 23rd December 2007 – 5 January 2008 and 21st – 24th March 2008.
Children aged 0-14 years old are not accepted at Chalet Eiger.
Deposit: There is no deposit payable at the time of booking. Your credit card details are sufficient to secure your reservation.
Cancellation policy: For cancellations received within 30 days of arrival, 25% of the total cost will be charged to your credit card. For cancellations received within 7 days of arrival, or no shows, 100% of the total cost will be charged to your credit card.
Payment methods: Payment is on departure. All major credit cards are accepted (no surcharge).
Getting There And Around
You will be given full driving instructions from Wellington or Auckland once your reservation has been confirmed. Drive time from Wellington is approximately 5 hours while from Auckland it is approximately 3.5 hours.
It is strongly recommended that you hire a car to enable you to discover the area (if requested a guide can be arranged).
