Paradise Bay Villa Resort

Location: St. David

Paradise Bay is located in La Tante, St. David, at the same latitude as the capital St. George’s, on the other side of the Island at 35 car minutes. The resort is located amidst gorgeous nature.

Accommodation

Paradise Bay Villa Beach Resort and Spa offers 9 Caribbean tropical villas on 8 acres in a huge natural park, with great ocean and beach views. At this eco-friendly resort you will find gourmet cuisine, personal service, affordable massage and a gym.

Eco Policies

Eco-Design - In addition to regional building materials the resort used local timber, natural stones and bamboo where possible in the construction.

Energy – In 2007, Paradise Bay Resort were the first resort in Caricom to install a windmill to produce their electricity. The 80kW windmill is expected to produce more electricity than used by the resort, making the resort better than zero carbon once the connection to the mains is in place. Paradise Bay also encourages other resorts to use wind energy and assists them in their feasibility study, gives practical advice and offers assistance in installation by a factory trained team.
To minimise energy consumption the resort uses air conditioners with heat recovery units (which convert heat loss into hot water) in addition to solar water heaters. In addition, a high efficiency dishwasher with hot water connection is installed. Energy saving lamps combined with solar lights are also used and energy efficient refrigerators and washing machines will be installed soon.
Paradise Bay have also implemented a carbon offset program where all flights and local transport/activities by guests will be offset by carbon credits purchased by the resort, on an automatic, audited basis. Your vacation is therefore guaranteed to be carbon neutral. The resort’s carbon offset program plants trees in Ethiopia and has additional social (firewood) and ecological benefits.

Conservation - The resort organises seminars to make the local population aware of issues such as global warming and opportunities to save energy.

Ecological sustainability – A surface well has been built at this eco-friendly resort, with underground channels to collect the rainwater from the hills around the resort. As there is no industry nor agriculture the water is extremely pure, so filtering is almost an unnecessary luxury. For drinking water, a source in the mountains is used which is also used for commercially bottled source water.
Guests are asked to keep using towels and bed linen as long as is comfortable for them.
Organic soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion in dispensers, cleaning materials are exclusively used.
Organic meat and vegetables are used in food preparation and locally made goods are used as much as possible.

Community - Local staff are hired where possible and locally produced goods are purchased, so that the area benefits from the resort’s presence.
After hurricane Ivan the resort set up Recovery Grenada Council to distribute food, water, medicines, vitamin pills, seeds and Christmas presents in the wide area. The resort also helps local cultural organizations with donations in kind.
In Spring 2008 the Resort are also starting an organic nursery project to produce seedlings for short crops as well as spice trees. The beneficiaries are (often older) farmers who could not start up their farm because access is still blocked and/or covered with dead trees and debris, caused by hurricane Ivan in September 2004.
